Swimming Pool Ideas : We are in the process of building a pool at our new house.
We are in the process of building a pool at our new house. At the point where we have to pick finishes and materials. Couple if questions…
1. Trying to decide between porcelain or glass tile. Love the look of glass but a little afraid of
Cracks/scratches, etc. anyone have experience with glass tile and willing to share? We are in Texas, only using tile for waterline (raised walls will be stacked stone)
2. We are planning to use a cool coat type of decking — prefer look of the lighter color (almost silvery/white) but husband thinks it will look too dirty. Thoughts?
jason: North Texas here. We went with glass tile and love it. 3 yrs now no issues.
jean: thanks! it looks great and I love the way it reflects off the water!
shi: Houston texas here. We had glass tiles and we even told to brush it with steel. It wont scratch!
shi: We have a Sundek coating. At first we wanted Silver its good we listened to our builder, you dont want to be squinting and get headache for too much brightness. We got Kahlua color and still bright in the sun.
jean: love the tile! I didn’t think about how bright the light decking can be in the sun but that’s a good point!! What did you guys use for the coping??
shi: coping is travertine. You see the kahlua was kind of dark in the pic, my picture above showing is in the covered patio and the not covered area was still bright.
dia: were almost done with the build, and we’re getting sundek coat for the decking. I’m curious about maintenance, and can it get dirty or stain easily?
jean: The PB we are using works with a different brand of decking — the colors are slightly different then SunDek’s. I was leaning towards the Arizona Sugar but my husband thinks Houston Tan.
shi: personally its easy, when it gets dirty we just spray with hose that has nozzle(slightly pressured). So far its still looking good. But heres the thing! If only i knew, they have different designs! Check them out and ask your builder if they do it.. https://www.sundek.com/pool-decks/
Jean, MG Arizona Sugar is gonna be bright! id go with your husbands Houston Tan. Whats your PB’s suggestion?
jean: shi haha yeah. the PB says that houston tan is a very popular one — i think it just seemed “dark” to me because i love the look of the plain white concrete decking. some of the other lighter colors seemed too yellow but it’s so hard to tell from these tiny samples!!
jason: And here is our kool decking. It is light tan.
jean: I love the look! Is it difficult to keep it looking clean like that??
jason: Yes and no. Lol. We have 2 large dogs. I have a spray nozel that works well though. I would highly recommend the color.
jean: what brand and color is it? We don’t have dogs but we do have 4 kids
con: Spring texas not fancy lol we kept our budget of 45k. 11yrs old easy to clean. tile no ruff edges with brick.
